Rules & Procedures
Competitor & Team Number Collection
Dancers/Teams (or someone on their behalf) must collect number cards before the competition commences. If a competition starts early, dancers may collect their number until the competition commences. However, missing a rotation during this time will result in disqualification from that round. Once the competition has commenced, number cards cannot be collected for ANY reason.
Number cards will be available for collection approximately 60 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Monitor the stages and the CLRG ID Official Instagram throughout the day for updates. Competitions may begin up to 60 minutes early (except for 8 AM start times). If a competition starts early, number distribution will also begin early.
On Stage
All round 1 hard shoe rounds will be danced three at a time each day. All round 1 soft shoe rounds will be danced two at a time each day. Dancers must tart on the appropriate starting markers on the stage. When dancing two at a time, dancers must stand on the outer markers, and not in the spaces in between. When dancing an open set dance, dancers may start from wherever they choose.
Procedures for Competition & Adjudication
-
Dancers will appear on stage in the order published in the programme book/posted on the website.
-
The first dancer listed will be assigned a random number, and subsequent dancers will follow in numerical order.
-
Competitor numbers will not be published in the program, but will be revealed on the official event website approximately one hour before the start of the competition.
-
All dancers (or someone acting on their behalf) MUST collect their number prior to the commencement of the competition. Should the competition commence early, then number cards can be collected up to the published start time of the competition, however, should the dancer miss their rotation, they will not be permitted to participate. Failure to follow this policy will result in the ineligibility to participate. This is very important.
-
All hard-shoe rounds will be danced 3 at a time. All soft-shoe rounds will be danced 2 at a time.
-
Recalls will be announced in the hall where the sets are scheduled; and posted online.
-
Teachers of winning dancers will be presented with their award side-stage. They will not appear on stage.
-
Adjudicators will be sequestered at least one hour prior to the start of each competition, and remain so until signing off on their final result.
-
Adjudicators will not be permitted access to phones, tablets, smart watches or other devices while sequestered.
-
Adjudicators will not be permitted to carry handbags/purses, briefcases, or folders to their tables.
-
Coiste Faire shall bring all paperwork to and from the adjudication tables for the adjudicators.
-
Adjudicators will interact only with Coiste Faire and the Oireachtas Chairperson during competitions.
-
Teachers and attendees are asked to refrain from contacting or socializing with adjudicators before and during the event, regardless of intention.
-
The Committee is working with the venue staff and the hotel staff to separate the adjudicators from the public as much as possible; most particularly at meal times and in the evenings.
-
Teachers, parents and dancers: please review all additional rules as published in the syllabus, which is available at www.clrgoireachtas.com.
-
CLRG reserves the right to refuse admission and remove persons to our events.
Scoring

-

Mishaps & Redances
-
An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha will, as far as is practicable, provide a stage surface suitable for dancing. However, An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha cannot accept any liability for injuries sustained while on the performance, practice and warm-up stages. The lodgement of an entry will be deemed to be an acceptance of this provision by a dancer, their parent or guardian, and their teacher.
-
Should a dancer lose a heel, a toepiece, a complete shoe or have an open lace, they may stand back –allowing the other dancer(s), where applicable, to continue dancing uninhibited. In such a case, the dancer concerned will be permitted to re-dance without penalty.
-
a) Should a dancer fall on stage, whether in solos or in teams, the adjudicators MUST ring the bell to stop the performance of the dancer(s). Dancers so affected will be permitted to re-dance, and will be marked at the discretion of each individual adjudicator.
-
b) Should a dancer slip, bump into another dancer or have a costume malfunction – whether in solos or in teams – the bell may be rung at the discretion of the adjudicators to stop the performance of the dancer(s). Dancers so affected will be permitted to re-dance and will be marked at the discretion of each individual adjudicator.
-
c) Should, in the opinion of the stage steward and/or a medical professional (if necessary), a dancer be deemed unfit to re-dance but insists on their right to do so, then the dancer concerned will only be permitted to re-dance upon completion of a declaration form exonerating An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha of liability for any consequences. Any repeat accident/incident which results in that dancer being unable to complete the required number of bars of any round, will result in the dancer withdrawing without question from the championship.
-
-
If the adjudicators ring the bell to stop a performance during the last eight (8) bars in Round 1 or 2, the dancers will only be required to dance the last 16 bars of that dance. If the adjudicators ring the bell to stop a performance during any part of their open solo set dance, the dancer will perform the entire dance for their re-dance.
-
In the case of all re-dances, such shall occur as soon as it is deemed practicable by the stage steward and no sooner than after five rotations of dancers. Where such occurs at the end of a competition, an equivalent amount of recovery time (approximately seven minutes) will be afforded to the dancer(s).
-
A competitor must not walk off the stage during a performance unless instructed to do so by an adjudicator or stage steward. A dancer who dismisses themselves from the stage without such permission will receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators.
-
If at any time during a performance, an adjudicator feels that the performance should be stopped due to the health and safety of a performer on stage, the adjudicator MUST ring the bell. This does not guarantee a re-dance and/or re-marking for the competitor.
-
Respect for fellow competitors on stage is a requirement at all times. Lack of respect or courtesy for fellow competitors by aggressive dancing on stage will be subject to penalty at the discretion of each individual adjudicator. The Extended Irish Points system will be utilized for all competitions.

Sponsored by The Marie Duffy Foundation the Aisling Award will be presented to the highest ranked dancer from Asia, Continental Europe, Mexico, Nordic Countries, South Africa or South America, who does not also feature in the final result as a World Medal Holder.
The word "Aisling" means to dream; and our dream is that this award will inspire these dancers toward excellence in Irish dance.
