To ensure a smooth competition experience, please familiarize yourself with the following procedures for competitors and adjudicators. These guidelines cover number assignments, competition format, and adjudicator protocols to help maintain consistency, efficiency, and professionalism throughout the event.

Teachers, parents, and dancers: Please review all additional rules published in the official syllabus.

    • Stage Appearance Order

      • Dancers will appear on stage in the order published in the program book.

    • Number Assignment:

      • The first dancer listed will be assigned a random number between 101 and 130, with subsequent dancers following in numerical order.

      • The first dancer listed will not necessarily dance first.

      • Start numbers will be randomly assigned for the first round and published on the official event website and in the program, with subsequent rounds beginning one-third later.

    • Competitor Numbers:

      • Competitor numbers will not be published in the program.

      • They will be released on the official event website approximately one hour before the competition begins.

    • Number Collection:

      • All dancers (or a designated representative) must collect their number before the competition starts. Failure to do so will result in ineligibility to participate.

      • If the competition starts early, the number cards will still be available until the competition commences.

      • If a dancer misses their rotation, they will not be permitted to compete.

    • Hard-Shoe Rounds:

      • Danced three at a time.

    • Soft-Shoe Rounds:

      • Danced two at a time.

    • 4 Hands & 8 Hands

      • Danced one at a time

    • Recalls:

      • Will not be announced in the halls.

      • They will be posted online as soon as they are available.

      • Do not ask staff about recall times; they will not have this information.

    • Number Check:

      • Conducted approximately every 30 dancers during the first two rounds of Solo Championships.

      • All dancers will return to the stage in a line for adjudicators to verify marks.

    • Sequestration:

      • Adjudicators will be sequestered one hour before the start of each competition and remain so until they sign off on their final results.

      • While sequestered, adjudicators may not use phones, tablets, smartwatches, or other electronic devices.

      • Handbags, purses, briefcases, and folders are not permitted at adjudication tables.

    • Interaction Restrictions:

      • A Coiste Faire (Ethics Committee) member will manage all paperwork between adjudicators and the competition officials.

      • Adjudicators may only interact with Coiste Faire and the Oireachtas Chairperson during competitions.

      • Teachers and attendees are asked to refrain from contacting and socializing with adjudicators before or during the event, regardless of intention.

    • Privacy Measures:

      • The Committee, in collaboration with the hotel and venue staff, has taken steps to separate adjudicators from the public as much as possible, particularly at meal times and in the evenings. Please respect their privacy.

    • The Extended Irish Points system will be utilized for all competitions.

    • Rotating panels of five (5) adjudicators will officiate on each round.  The highest and lowest marks will be dropped for each competitor/team prior to the recall (if required) and again, prior to preparing the final result.

    • Competitors who start to dance early or fail to start immediately after the stipulated 8-bar introduction will automatically receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round.

    • Competitors who start to dance before or fail to start immediately after the stipulated set dance introduction will automatically receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round.

    • If a competitor fails to dance or complete the 1st round of a Solo Championship, they will receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round.  As a courtesy, they will be allowed to dance the 2nd round, and whilst they will receive marks from each adjudicator, they will automatically receive ZERO points and will not be allowed to advance any further in the competition.

    • If a competitor fails to dance or complete the 2nd round of a Solo Championship, they will receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round, and will not be allowed to advance any further in the competition.

    • If a competitor fails to dance or complete the open set dance round, they will receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round, and cannot appear in a medal-winning position.

    • The term “complete” means that all bars as outlined in the syllabus are danced without any stops (other than brief, choregraphed pauses).

    1. An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha will, as far as is practicable, provide a stage surface suitable for dancing. However, An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha cannot accept any liability for injuries sustained while on the performance, practice and warm-up stages. The lodgement of an entry will be deemed to be an acceptance of this provision by a dancer, their parent or guardian, and their teacher.

    2. Should a dancer lose a heel, a toepiece, a complete shoe or have an open lace, they may stand back –allowing the other dancer(s), where applicable, to continue dancing uninhibited. In such a case, the dancer concerned will be permitted to re-dance without penalty.

      • a) Should a dancer fall on stage, whether in solos or in teams, the adjudicators MUST ring the bell to stop the performance of the dancer(s).  Dancers so affected will be permitted to re-dance, and will be marked at the discretion of each individual adjudicator.

      • b) Should a dancer slip, bump into another dancer or have a costume malfunction – whether in solos or in teams – the bell may be rung at the discretion of the adjudicators to stop the performance of the dancer(s). Dancers so affected will be permitted to re-dance and will be marked at the discretion of each individual adjudicator.

      • c) Should, in the opinion of the stage steward and/or a medical professional (if necessary), a dancer be deemed unfit to re-dance but insists on their right to do so, then the dancer concerned will only be permitted to re-dance upon completion of a declaration form exonerating An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha of liability for any consequences. Any repeat accident/incident which results in that dancer being unable to complete the required number of bars of any round, will result in the dancer withdrawing without question from the championship.

    3. If the adjudicators ring the bell to stop a performance during the last eight (8) bars in Round 1 or 2, the dancers will only be required to dance the last 16 bars of that dance. If the adjudicators ring the bell to stop a performance during any part of their open solo set dance, the dancer will perform the entire dance for their re-dance.

    4. In the case of all re-dances, such shall occur as soon as it is deemed practicable by the stage steward and no sooner than after five rotations of dancers.  Where such occurs at the end of a competition, an equivalent amount of recovery time (approximately seven minutes) will be afforded to the dancer(s).

    5. A competitor must not walk off the stage during a performance unless instructed to do so by an adjudicator or stage steward. A dancer who dismisses themselves from the stage without such permission will receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators.

    6. If at any time during a performance, an adjudicator feels that the performance should be stopped due to the health and safety of a performer on stage, the adjudicator MUST ring the bell.  This does not guarantee a re-dance and/or re-marking for the competitor.

    7. Respect for fellow competitors on stage is a requirement at all times. Lack of respect or courtesy for fellow competitors by aggressive dancing on stage will be subject to penalty at the discretion of each individual adjudicator. The Extended Irish Points system will be utilized for all competitions.

    8. Rotating panels of five (5) adjudicators will officiate on each round.  The highest and lowest marks will be dropped for each competitor/team prior to the recall (if required) and again, prior to preparing the final result.

    9. Competitors who start to dance early or fail to start immediately after the stipulated 8-bar introduction will automatically receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round.

    10. Competitors who start to dance before or fail to start immediately after the stipulated set dance introduction will automatically receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round.

    11. If a competitor fails to dance or complete the 1st round of a Solo Championship, they will receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round.  As a courtesy, they will be allowed to dance the 2nd round, and whilst they will receive marks from each adjudicator, they will automatically receive ZERO points and will not be allowed to advance any further in the competition.

    12. If a competitor fails to dance or complete the 2nd round of a Solo Championship, they will receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round, and will not be allowed to advance any further in the competition.

    13. If a competitor fails to dance or complete the open set dance round, they will receive ZERO marks and ZERO points from all adjudicators for that round, and cannot appear in a medal-winning position.
